[ laughter ] >> 7:01 on this saturday morning. let's take live look outside. it doesn't quite feel like february. >> yeah. this weather, it is really all over the place. we're dealing with the fog, the drizzle and we have more rainfall, lauren, just in time for, yes, the weekend. so the past several weekends we've been dealing with the clouds, the showers and that's going to be the case for today.

live look outside of our studios showing you kind of the fog and mist. mid 40s right now. the wind, it is calm as we look at current visibility, it's reduced lancaster county down to quarter of a mile. quarter of a mile in pottstown. down to 2 miles for atlantic city. so as we look at ultimate doppler, we're watching the rainfall off to the west. that will head in our direction especially this afternoon and also this evening. so grab the umbrellas. keep them handy because that heavy rainfall will be moving in later on today, tonight for your plans and it will continue for the first part of the day tomorrow. but temperature wise right now, we're in the low to mid 40s and temperatures will climb into the mid 50s later on this afternoon. that will be above average but once again we're looking at that rainfall moving in in particular later on today. so here's your planner for the weekend. mid 50s for high temperatures today. we're looking at 60 degrees by tomorrow. once again that instead yesterday of the rainfall later

on tonight into the first part of the day tomorrow. we'll go hour by hour and talk about rainfall totals coming up. lauren, back over to you. ♪ guys... >> imagine seeing and hearing that. in south philadelphia driver barreling through more than a dozen park cars on one south philly street overnight leaving behind thousands of dollars in damage. the driver in custody. but people are still angry understandably so. jennifer joyce live in south philadelphia with this breaking story. jenny, i cannot imagine. >> reporter: no, me neither a lot of people are not awake yet here in south philly. i can imagine they did have a late 90 all of this happening after 11:00 clock. they ran outside to see what the heck was going on and then they found this. a number of cars damaged. a number of side mirrors ripped off this car getting a little

bit worse damage than others. i know you just saw some of that viewer video we'll show it to you again. his engine and then just crashing into cars. >> my god! >> reporter: so several people on the block came running outside after hearing the car crashing into parked vehicles here on third street. it happened around 11:00 ultimately the driver pulled over, got out of his car and what appears to be neighbors on the block held the man down until police arrived. the third police district tells us the driver was taken into custody for suspicious of dui. what happens now? a lot of people in south philly will be calling their insurance companies today and waiting to find out the status of that driver. now in police custody. so back out here live i walked up third street and lauren i counseled at least nine vehicles still out here with obvious

damage. back to you. >> i can't imagine. jenny joyce, thank you very mu much. less are investigate a double shooting in north philadelphia this morning. investigators say someone shot two men around 1:45 at west rockland and north broad street. 36-year-old man was shot twice in his legs and a 3584 old man three times in his legs. the 36-year-old is in critical condition at einstein hospital. police fear the shooter hit his artery. the 35-year-old man is in stable condition at einstein. officials are still looking for a suspect. a building in philadelphia's historic district ravaged with a massive fire will soon be torn down. flashing police lights can still be seen at third and chestnut street which is still closed off to traffic. it's been six days since a fire destroyed the building at 239 chestnut street. the cause of the fire still unknown. we have learned demolition will begin on monday and it's expected to take week. several streets in the area will be closed nearby businesses allowed to remain open during the project are wondering if the

road closures will affect your bottom line. >> if it's one week, two weeks that's okay but otherwise, upping, i don't know to do. >> going to be a problem but eye as i said before we don't know for sure yet so i would like to stay positive for the time bei being. >> the little lion restaurant sits right on the corner of third and chestnut it shares a wall with the building that took in the fire. the owner expects to be closed for at least two months. for list of the streets that will be closed go to fox 29.com before you head out to that area next week. the park land school district in lehigh county hopes to reopen its schools monday after more than two dozen buses went up in flames canceling classes yesterday. flames broke out around 3:00 yesterday morning at a bus garage in south whitehall township. 25 school buses were destroyed including 16 that were complet completely gutted. stephanie and her daughters woke up to the smell of smoke. >> we heard sounds that sounded like explosions so we wanted to come down here just in case the

building would go. >> we got to pull a lot of the metal aluminum from the building to get it off the top so the fire marshal can do his job. >> the district says it's leasing and repairing buses for monday. luckily its fleet is full insured. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. schools in our area have been high alert. officials reported a number of potential threats over the last week. including radnor high school and pennridge high school. pennridge school district says the police department will be more visible than usual in the coming days out of an abundance of caution. bensalem police searching for a man who groped a young girl inside of a department store. they have a picture of the guy. there he is. police say it happened wednesday night inside the neshaminy target. the 13-year-old girl was with her mother when the man allegedly walked up and inappropriately touched her before he got away. police want to track him down before he does this again. target is working with police in their investigation. the news has shoppers alarmed.

>> when you're in a store or a shopping mall i think those -- those feel like safe places for parents with their children, oftentimes they'll separate children walk around on their own probably not good idea to be doing that sort of a shame that's what it's come to. >> yeah, it is. if you recognize the man you're asked to call bensalem police. and police have arrested two men in connection with a string of armed robberies at walmarts in our area. the incidents date back to july of last year. police say 26-year-old marquise foreman and 28-year-old john beverly targeted walmarts in several different pennsylvania counties. they're latest hit was back on january 7th. in that case, foreman allegedly put gun to a store employee's head and demanded 20i phones in a display case. they're now facing several charges. happening toda today, mooren celebrating a hometown hero. no it's not our very own steve keeley who is a hero in his own right but eagles head coach doug pederson who's fresh off bringing a first super bowl to

♪ time now 7:13 on this saturday morning. we're dealing with the clouds now. some areas of fog and drizzle but that rainfall will be moving in during the day especially by the afternoon and also this evening. so keep the umbrellas handy but temperatures will be milder than yesterday's high temperature of 43 degrees. we'll top outlook at this the mid 50s by later on today. so 55 today. 60 degrees by tomorrow. instead yesterday later on tonight into sunday morning. so about a 40% chance for the morning to see some rainfall, but by the afternoon and evening it ramps up to 70%. early sunday we're looking at 90% chance. then it drops by sunday afternoon to salvage at least some of the weekend. so dry to start. and then dry to end the weekend.

but in between we're watching this moisture off to the west that will head in our direction hour by hour by lunch time we're looking at some of the scattered showers especially moving in from west to east across the area and then you can see we continue that action into this evening and then during the overnight some moderate to heavy rainfall by 4:00 a.m. we're looking at the orange, the yellow across the area it continues to move in during your sunday morning before we finally dry out by sunday afternoon. so additional rainfall over half an inch for atlantic city, likely over an inch before all is said and done additionally around philadelphia and points north and west. we dry out early next week. temperatures above average upper 50s to near 60 degrees. lauren. >> i'll take that, scott, thank you so much. 7:14. big change op penn state's campus. police will carry naloxone known asnar can. officers at the main campus

trained on how to administer the medicine and thou recognize an overdose. on campus paramedics will also carry it. the penn state police department is following the lead of agencies all across the country in the fight against drug abuse and the opioid epidemic. nine days after gunman killed 17 innocent people in mass school shooting teachers are returning to stoneman douglas high school. school officials say they are taking their time with reopening as teachers and staff receive counseling. meanwhile florida governor rick scott announced 400 fief $50 million in new spend to go add man la tower law enforcement officers in every school. he also proposed new measures that would make it more difficult for people with mental health issues to get a gun. >> well this plan of action is to make massive changes in protecting our schools. provide significantly more resources for mental health, and to to do everything we can to keep guns out of the hands of those dealing with mental problems. >> new gun control measures are

also being discussed on the federal level. the president is set to meet witness nation's governors on monday to discuss some of those op shops. speaking of the president he spoke at the annual conservative political action conference and toll conservatives even second amendment supporters can get behind steps to fight gun violence. the president is advocating for several new policies after last week's deadly florida shooting. including expanding background checks and higher age restrictions on gun purchases. all right. we'll discuss this because i think it will get a lot of people talking. you go to a hotel. you don't want to be bothered. so you make sure you put the little hanging thing on the do door. >> leave me alone. do not disturb. apparently at one local -- one brand. >> okay. >> it's not going to be enough to keep room service out. so one of the largest casinos will begin checking the hotel rooms every 24 hours. >> wow. >> even if you have that sign hanging on your door. >> hmm. >> caesars entertainment has become the latest hospitality firm to adopt new room check policies after last year's las

junior reporter chris in temple university here now. what do you have for us this morning. >> lauren i met a woman who has a lot of perseverance. she's humble despite what many people will call a very dull past. every day thousands of people walk through suburban station. some may call it a subway stop. but for others a home. with over 6,000 homeless people in our city, you'll find hundreds at suburban station. >> i was was mentally messed up to even live out here. >> meet michelle for almost 30 years she has been battling homelessness while sleeping anywhere she could find at the station. it wasn't until she entered a rigorous 19-month recovery program when she was able to turn her life around. >> this is where i'm at today by accepting they help. you have to want to accept people help to get it. >> reporter: despite her difficult past michelle decided to come back right here to suburban station this time as a homeless out reach worker trying to impact the lives of others. >> i can help someone out here

like i was. >> she tries to find a shelter fr others still living at the station. >> you okay? you looking for shelter. >> it's one of the reasons her boyfriend is exceptionally pro proud. >> if it wasn't for her, i really wouldn't have too much to wake up for the next day. >> but for her daughter sierra the road wasn't always easy she was born when her mom was homeless and was separated from her at birth. yet she always yearned for that motherly affection. >> i never gave up on her but i just like i was kind of losing hope. sometimes i'd be ready to give up. like just move on. she kind of give me that energy and that hope that, like, just take time sometimes. >> now michelle is taking her time by enjoying open day and thankful that she can help others. >> i'm not stealing. i'm taking care of my daughter. i'm not sleeping on the streets no more. i'm going to be persistent to help the next person. >> now meanwhile the city has teamed up with septa to open a homeless out reach and resource

♪ this video is frightening a driver barrels through more than a dozen parked cars on a south philadelphia street overnight leaving behind thousands of dollars in damage. it happened on south third street sometime around 10:45 last night. people heard the noise and came running outside and one of them didn't want that driver to get away so he hemmed him down until police arrived. new castle county police are hoping someone recognizes this guy. it's a sketch of the man police say is exposing himself to people. police say there were two incidents this month in the north gray land crest and roselle sections of wilmington. in both cases, a guy driving green car made contact with young girls walking and then decides to expose himself. if you know who he is, give police a call.

and this morning five people are charged with filing false applications collecting tens of thousands of dollars in relief money in connection with super storm sandy. they're accused of receiving money from fema and other state grants that did not belong to them. that guy you see at the top, 64-year-old david silva, is from egg harbor township. prosecutors say the number of people charged in these cases since march 24 now stands at 109. welcome back to good day weekend i'm lauren johnson. thank you so much for joining us on this saturday morning. scott williams has a look at your forecast. hi, scott. >> hi there are lauren. another weekend so more unsettled weather. we have some areas of fog out there. but most of the rainfall arrives later on during the afternoon and the evening. mid 40s right now. we'll go to the mid 50s later on today. but look at the fog out there. visibility down to 2 miles in philadelphia. down to a quarter of a mile for places like lancaster, also, pottstown. half mile visibility currently in dover and a quarter of a mile

in millville and wildwood. so just be mindful of that. low 40s north and west. we have mid to upper 40s through sections of delaware and also south jersey. so the average high this time of year is 46 degrees. we'll top out right around 55 degrees for philadelphia. 56 in atlantic city. low 50s for the lehigh valley. headed to the poconos temperatures will be stuck in the 40s for high temperatures. so we have the clouds, some areas of fog but most of the rainfall it's still off to the west. and then as we zoom out you can see a around parts of the ohio river valley moderate to heavy rainfall that will head in our direction. so temperatures later on today top out in the mid 50s, and that seven day forecast, we'll have that coming up but you can see 60 degrees for tomorrow instead yesterday of that rainfall arrives later on tonight through tomorrow morning. lauren, back over to you. >> thank you very much. new york university and the company that caters its dining facilities are apologizing this morning. they're saying sorry for what's

being called a racially incentive lunch served during black history month. the black history month themed menu has faced plenty of backlash it included ribs, collard greens, corn bread, cool aid and watermelon flavored water. sophomore nia harris wept to facebook on tuesday to express her displeasure and distaste writing on facebook "in 2018, there's no excuse for intentional and deliberate disrespect. nyu and the catering company aramark issued an apology and some employees have since been fired. chad lassiter joins us this morning to discuss more about this. how are you? >> i'm good. good to see you. good morning. >> good morning. tell me your first reaction when you heard about this. >> not surprised. deeply rooted and the birth of the nation the thing that i want to highlight is the fact this student used social media from a social justice perspective to get the word out. back history is so much more than menus and food. deeply rooted in the stereo typical nations of cool aid and

watermelon juice. collard greens corn bread, mac and cheese much the black student union at nyu was engaged in a black history month progr program. so there's no need to engage in menus thinking that selling the story of black people in america is readed in our food. there's so much more much it's fanny, ida b wells. you think keeping the lesson out of the cafeteria would have been the best bet for ny judgment. >> the best bet. the individuals who created the menu didn't follow policy because they didn't get permission to actually make that -- the food for that menu they did it upon themselves. they have since been fired but what we see is in 2018 we see embold denness around the area we find ourselves n err rav racial intolerance. >> i think i was reading nia's facebook post and some of the comments that came below it. let's play definitely's advoca advocate. >> angel's advocate. >> they said nia, what would have been an appropriate non offensive menu? >> how would you answer that chad. >> you don't have to engage in having a menu but we definitely want to be cool aid and

watermelon juice. you can have done something li like, patti labelle does. cook food from cultural social standpoint as it relates to soul food. it could have been, you know, some other foods but it definitely could have been that. when we talk about cool aid we note it has stereo typical notion and poverty stricken communities. >> i think your answer to the next one some people are asking the question what's the difference between this menu and a soul food themed restaurant? >> soul food themed restaurant if we look at city of philadelphia when you look at relish or warm daddies you look at miss tooties it has foods but it doesn't have the stereo typical satire around the cool aid and watermelon juice. >> i think that bother her the most. >> certainly. >> she was puzzled by the food items but i think she said in her e-mail to the staff members i think as beverage choices today there was a red cool aid and watermelon flavored water. >> stereo typical. >> that upset her the most. >> rarely epp sensitive. the president jumped on it. she should be commended for what she did and we need to have teachable moments like this good i was going to same you are

it caused a lot of south philly residents to get very upset last night and still this morning. take look at this vehicle. this is one of the cars with a little bit more severe damage sideswiped on the corner in addition to this we have roughly nine vehicles still on this block with side mirrors ripped off. i know you just saw that viewer video. we have to show it to you again. you can hear horns honking, you can hear that engine revving and smashing into car after car after car. >> he tried to get out of the vehicle loft residents that actually came hit came out of their houses and laid them at bay. handy to be a lucky police officer coming buying right after it happened. it was mind blowing. i had to pop in the house and call neighbors up and just started making sure all my friends cars were okay. so just mind blowing. >> reporter: so that was actually one neighbor i talked to who said he had just gotten home from work and he saw all of his neighbors out here in the street working together as you heard him say they were holding

down the driver who caused all of this damage until police arrived. so it was third district police. they responded and they ended up taking that man into custody on suspicion of dui. in the meantime we have again nine cars here but that man we talk to said last night there were roughly 15, 16 so some of those cars probably were moved overnight. but a lot to figure out now. i think you also heard that man say that they believe the driver is one of their neighbors. so people here know who that person is. so it's likely he will have to pay for this damage. back to you lauren. >> that is rough. jenny joyce, thank you so much. police are investigating a double shooting in north philadelphia this morning. investigators say someone shot two men around 1:45 at west rockland and north broad street. 36-year-old man was shot twice in his legs. a 35-year-old man shot three times in his legs. the 36-year-old is in critical condition at einstein hospital. police fear that shooter did hit an artery. the 35-year-old is in stable condition officials are looking

for a suspect. a building in philadelphia's historic distract ravaged by massive fire will soon be torn down. flashing police lights can be seen at third and chestnut street which is still closed off to traffic. it's been six days since a fire destroyed the building at 239 chestnut street. the cause of the fire still unknown. we have learned demolition will begin on monday and it's expected to take about a week. that means several streets in the area will be closed. nearby businesses allowed to remain open during the project wonder if those road closures will affect their bottom line. >> the park land school district in lehigh county hopes to reopen its schools monday after more than two dozen buses went up in flames. canceling classes yesterday. flames broke out around 3:00 o'clock yesterday morning at a bus garage in south whitehall township. 25 school buses look at them there destroyed including 16 that were completely gutted. stephanie and her daughters remember waking up to the smell of smoke.

ben sal let me police searching for a man who groped a young girl inside a department store. they have a photo of the guy. police say it happened wednesday night inside the neshaminy target. the 13-year-old girl was with her mother when the man allegedly walked up and inappropriately touched her before he got away. police want to track him down before he does this again. target is working with police in their investigation. teachers returned to stoneman douglas high school yesterday just nine days after a gunman opened fire killing 17 innocent people. school officials say they're taking their time to reopen providing counseling and other resources to faculty and staff. they want to make sure this transition goes smoothly but the incident has affected communities across the country including right here in our area. joanne pill lee gee has more on the school threats including the most recent out of delaware county. >> everybody is hyper vigilant based on the current circumstances around the country. >> reporter: police in radnor township were called to the high school after a student social

kicks and her movements and thinking she's a normal child but when i would have had her she would have came out, you know, a lot of issues so it was hard decision. i had her footprints and, you know, me doing this event causes me to propel my grieving process. so me honoring women who have been through all types of things just letting them know you have the right to live past your pa pain. >> i know i read some of the stories of the women. one woman who is local who's living with hiv. >> yes. >> there's other women who have their own stories. >> yes. >> how did you find these women and locate them to help them come forward and share their stories? >> well a few of women i personally new and i watched their lives progressively and i said you know what, she would be a great candidate. i met the woman with hiv at a another event and i said she would be amazing because she was so strong and she was confident. so all the women have been through traumatic experiences. they're currently dealing with breast cancer, um, loss of babies, loss of their mothers,
